Baseball, Hot
Dogs, Apple Pie - Catholic Education
Where else can you go and stand in the shadow of a
national landmark (Coney Island
Amusement Park),
look out into the ocean, watch a baseball game, and celebrate
the importance Catholic Education all at the same time?
Add to this grand spectacle, the regional pitching debut of
hot prospect, Msgr. John J. Bracken (who threw out the game’s
first pitch). Of course, the answer to that question on
July 23 was Going to Bat for Catholic
Education. |

Across a
landscape of yellow tee shirts the Brooklyn Cyclones
prevailed in a 2 – 0 pitcher’s duel while lightening cascaded
across the western skies. The tee shirts promoted the
importance of Catholic Education for the children in the
Diocese of Brooklyn. Those who bought raffle tickets,
and their children, had a chance, this one night, to wear
their feelings on their sleeves (and their back and front as
well).
This past
school year alone, Futures in Education Foundation
joined with the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Alive in Hope
Foundation, the Children’s Scholarship Fund, and
other generous partners to award over $6 million to more than
6,000 students. Our children who receive these
scholarships belong to families with an average household
income of less than $24,000. July 23 was a chance for
everyone to come together in celebration of this vitally
important mission while focusing of the need to continue
generating support for the children both for this year and the
years to come.
Tremendous
thanks go out to the Brooklyn Cyclones for sponsoring
this annual event and to Msgr. Bracken for his leadership –
both on and off the field.
